Can you hook up a Guitar to A/V Receiver
Coaxial or “coax” ports resemble round, metal cylinders with a small hole in the middle, though your TV may just have a small circular hole in its back if it’s old enough. Coaxial cables have the same connector on both ends—a hollow metal cylinder with a pin in the middle—and they often have a ring around each end that can be used to tighten the cable’s connection to the port.
If you don’t have a coaxial cable, you can buy one online or in a tech department store. It should plug directly into the coaxial port in the back of the VHS player.

Thanks for your quick reply Also, is there a real noticeable difference between an AV Receiver and a dedicated Hi-Fi amplifier for music? Even more so if they are the same price. For an AV to equal a stereo’s music performance it will cost around 3 times as much. I am thinking of purchasing the Q Acoustics Cinema package for music and films front two for music only , but I’m just wondering whether the extra money spent on a Hi-Fi amp will be justified just for music. I assume I will need some kind of switch box to connect the two front speakers to the AV Receiver and amplifier?
The Q’s are decent speakers and will sound good for films but for music you may find them a little wanting as they are clearly not designed for that. In saying that, they will do a job. If you decided to get an stereo amp for music they can be connected to the same speakers as the av via a switch like this or if the av has them, by connecting the pre-outs of the av not the sub pre-outs to the stereo aux input.
With this setup the fronts speakers connected to the stereo amp and the rears, sub and center to the av. But before suggestions can be made a few questions for you. What have you got already or looking at? What is your music source at the moment, cd’s, pc based mp3, etc.

Many portable devices are equipped with Bluetooth wireless connectivity, and the AVR-SW’s built-in Bluetooth wireless technology lets you stream your favorite audio tracks from up to 8 Bluetooth-enabled devices, such as smartphones, portable audio players and tablets.
These switches allow you to route a single audio source and sometimes more than one through a switching system that distributes the audio to various speakers or speaker pairs throughout the home. In this way you can choose, or select, which areas of the home you want to have audio. While simplistic, there are things you want to take into account when using these devices so that you use them properly and also maximize the way you distribute audio to various speakers in your particular application.
Typically, a speaker selector switch is placed after an amplifier or AV receiver, so that it can take a source—be it a radio, iPod or other streaming music source—and pass that on to speakers throughout your house. These are typically passive devices intended for use with already-amplified speaker-level signals. Options and Controls Speaker selector switches can range from handling two pairs of speakers all the way up to 8 pairs of speakers or more, but they all work in basically the same way.
They turn on and off pairs of speakers in the system, and they may or may not adjust the volume for each pair. More sophisticated models may even support more than one source, serving as a sort of matrix switcher for routing any audio to any pair of connected speakers. All you do is feed it a powered output and then choose which zones to send your audio to. In this first diagram, we show a simplistic speaker selector configuration with integrated volume controls: This is a diagram of a fairly basic speaker select switch implementation.
If your speaker selector switch lacks volume controls, then all speaker pairs will be raised and lowered whenever the output volume of the amplifier or AV receiver is changed. This can be problematic for scenarios when you have differing speaker efficiencies and impedances. To make it a tad more complex, this next diagram has us adding volume controls to each room in the system.

Thanks but it sounds like you are speaking audiophile to a guy who only speaks ordinary English. If you wish to play the audio coming from your receiver to a Sonos Connect in another room, you need a way to get the audio from the receiver into the connect. Since the only way to get audio into the Connect is via the analog line-in, you would need an analog line-out on the receiver. An analog line-out is not something which is standard on all receivers, you would have to check your particular model to see if it is possible.
In any case, this is bit of a roundabout way of getting things done. Almost every source available via the receiver is built-in to Sonos, with far better support.

Many audiophiles still swear by the sound produced by vintage stereo receivers. Even though some of these receivers can be 30 years old or more, those in good condition still produce sound that can rival or even exceed some high-end digital units. Good quality vintage receivers are still available, and with a little research, it can be the heart of any audio system.
While many of these receivers were designed to be mounted in stacks much like modern components, they do present some unique requirements that make setting one up properly a different proposition than simply sliding it into any open space in an entertainment center. However, for any user willing to take the time to set one up, a vintage stereo receiver can provide thousands of hours of unmatched listening pleasure.
The set-up is dead simple: I f you have both a TV and a receiver that supports ARC, a single HDMI cable between them can send information bidirectionally. In other words: It can send video from the receiver to the TV, but it can also send audio from the TV to the receiver.
Atmos-ready, upgradable for DTS: X upgradability, and even Auro-3D upgradability, making it as future-proof as a receiver can currently be. Only the nine-channel Pioneer Elite SC and this Marantz have provided what I deem the minimum acceptable Atmos experience utilizing 5. This review also marks my second exposure to Atmos-enabled speakers—which attempt to bounce height effects off the ceiling—and my first exposure to Atmos add-ons, in the form of the Klipsch RP SA.
Adding the Klipsches to my existing Paradigm monitors enabled me to incorporate the Paradigms, my longtime reference speakers, into Atmos demos for the first time. I would use the Pioneers for Atmos and the Paradigms for 5. But adding Atmos to the speakers that are hardwired into my frame of reference was worth the trouble. A dedicated review of the Klipsches is in the works. The top four support Atmos.

September 30, 3: I just recently joined not too long ago to the Tomshardware community to ask a question that’s been bothering me for awhile. Simply put, I’m trying to figure out how to hook up these three pieces all together, to play the sound from a desktop. The receiver, the speakers to the receiver and then finally to the desktop I come from the land of PC grade 2.
Alot of the 2. I believe it’s because of a Crossover doing this? Something more along the lines of laptop speakers paired with a subwoofer that doesn’t play bass drum strikes and bass guitar tones together well, and ends up sounding like rumbling Depends on the genre I listen to and recording quality I’m what you could say a growing audiophile of sorts.

One need only look around their local or online electronics store to find a plethora of options from wireless speakers to Bluetooth headphones to get a sense of how strong this market is. Major players such as Apple and Google are naturally positioned to capitalize on this trend and have developed compact devices to enable consumers to stream content wirelessly in their home. Chromecast or Chromecast Audio? Google has separated the Chromecast line into an audio-only device and a video device.
This is an interesting marketing strategy, given the video Chromecast obviously streams audio signals along with its video, however you cannot stream audio only to the video Chromecast, you need the Chromecast Audio if you simply want to listen to music, which will not stream video. For those of you new to the wonderful world of wireless streaming, Chromecast allows you to send video and audio from your phone or tablet to your TV, or speakers, or both if you use a receiver, and have complete control it all with your wireless device, while being able to continue to use it for any other app simultaneously.
Assuming you have a wireless internet network in your home, all you need to get started is the hardware and the free Google Cast App from the App Store or Google Play.
